Annual Alex City Jazz Fest - Alexander City, Alabama

Mixing your Alabama tourism adventure with some great jazz has to be some of the most exciting things that you will experience.  You can attend the FREE tow-day event in Alexander City at Strand Park in Downtown Alexander City on Friday and at the Lake Martin Amphitheater on Saturday.

Some of the best entertainers in jazz anywhere are always showing up for this outstanding event.  There are normally more than 10,000 people that come to hear great jazz and see the entertainers that are there to put on a top notch show.  They perform on a stage erected downtown in Strand Park on Friday night and then at the Amphitheater on Saturday.

Join in with those that are clapping and stomping their feet to the music.  There are tables that you can reserve but be aware that they usually are reserved 4 weeks in advance of the event so you will want to get yours reserved before that time.  Decorate your table just before the music starts.  There is a competition for the best decorated in accord to the theme of jazz!

The celebration got its start as a birthday celebration for a local department store and has grown into a citywide event.  The idea was that of Ralph Frohsin to celebrate his stores 100th birthday.  He decided it was what he wanted when he visited The Blue Note in New York while there on a buying trip.

So if you are in the area or planning to go to the area in the early summer, check with the chamber of commerce to find out what the dates for the celebration are and attend.

Location: Strand Park, Alexander City (Friday night) and Lake Martin Amphitheater (Saturday night).

Hours: 6:30 PM - 11 PM  Friday night and 6:30 PM - 11:30 PM on Saturday night.
