Early Works Museum Complex Offers Hands-On Learning. The Early Works Museum Complex in Huntsville, Alabama offers a spectacular way for children to enjoy hands-on learning experiences. The complex seeks to bring history to life by sharing the rich history of Alabama through interactive exhibits.
The main complex is comprised of three different museums and features a living museum theme. The living history experience begins at the complex with greetings from actors and actresses who are all dressed in period costumes. With the stage set, visitors progress into the Early works Children’s History Museum. Once you step foot inside the museum, you will see that it was definitely designed with children in mind. Small visitors are not only allowed, but encouraged to climb, stretch, pull and play. A variety of childhood favorites are included in the museum such as a music store with huge musical instruments and a talking tree. There is even a general store in the museum that encourages visitors to go back in time and dress in period costume as well.
The Huntsville Depot and Museum features an historic railway that provides visitors with an up close account of what it might have been like to travel on the railroad in the year 1860. All visitors seem to enjoy the ticket clerk Andy Barker, who is actually a robot. He is quite happy to enlighten visitors about the history of the railway in Alabama.
The Alabama Constitution Village offers a unique opportunity to see what historical Huntsville might have looked like in the 19th century. Visitors are able to practically step back in time and witness the very spot where the Constitution of Alabama was signed, making the state the 22nd state to enter the United States.
When planning a visit to the complex, be sure to set aside plenty of time because the kids will certainly want to have ample time to play, explore and discover. In fact, you may even have a difficult time telling them it’s time to leave. You can find the Early Works Museum Complex at 404 Madison Street in Huntsville. The complex is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 9am to 4pm. The site is closed on Sundays, Mondays and major holidays. Admission can be purchased per museum or through a combination ticket for the entire complex. Discounted group rates as well as senior citizen discounts are available.
