U.S. Space & Rocket Center - Huntsville, Alabama

U.S. Space & Rocket Center Delivers Out of this World Fun.  The U.S. Space & Rocket Center, located in Huntsville, Alabama, is one of the premier space museums in the world. The first NASA visitor center, the USSRC opened in 1970. Since that time more than 12 million visitors have taken the opportunity to learn more about space exploration. The largest collection of space memorabilia and rockets in the world is housed in the museum.

The center includes a variety of different educational programs, resources and exhibits that can be explored during a visit as well as Space Camp, X-Camp and Aviation Challenge.

One of the unique features of the center is the Davison Center for Space Exploration. This 476 foot long structure is actually suspended some 10 feet above the floor and features Saturn V, fully restored. Visitors will also have an opportunity to learn more about the center’s role in Apollo missions, the International Space Station the space race and the development of the moon rocket.

While the educational experience of viewing the memorabilia and collections should not be missed, the USSRC is also home to a variety exciting space rides, including the Space Shot. This ride gives visitors a chance to experience what a rock launch really feels like by shooting 140 feet straight up into the air in as little as 2.5 seconds at 4 G’s of force and featuring up to three seconds of weightlessness and a 1G free fall. For even more excitement, there is also the Mars Mission, a ride specially designed craft ride that will have riders feel as though they are hovering right over the famous red planet. The Apollo Cockpit Trainer invites visitors to climb aboard and perform actual tasks using a robotic arm. Have you ever dreamed of visiting the moon? While the ability to do just that might not be that far off, for now you can take a ride on the Lunar Lander and find out what it might be life to land on the surface of the moon.

The G-Force Accelerator is one of the more unique rides, featuring 3G’s and continually increasing speed until your body actually rises up in the seat. Not for the faint of heart! The Kids Cosmos Energy Depletion Zone offers the perfect place for young aspiring astronauts to explore the Space Station to their heart’s content. Top off a visit to the center with a stop at the IMAX Theater to see one of the many exciting films that will make you feel as if you have really ventured into the final frontier.
